Can you sing? Can you play guitar? Can you carve or make art???

The Kobuk 440 is preparing for the First Annual Kobuk 440 Benefit Dance and Auction.  An evening of fun, laughing and festivities will be held in Febuary (date to be announced later) to raise money for the Kobuk 440 Sled Dog Race.  We are asking for dontaions from across the Region and will hold the fundraiser auction in a format that is very similar to other live auctions on the radio.

A race of this magnitude is big for our Region, and it's big for the villages that it passes through.  The reason it has been so successful is because of local folks across the Region comme together and make it happen.  Please help us out by donating items to be sold during the auction.  Maybe you make them by hand, maybe you own a business and can donate a service, or maybe you have a friend or relative that can.

All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Kobuk 440 Sled Dog Race, an all volunteer truly non-profit association.  Consider the possibilities and become a contributor to the Toughest Sled Dog Race in Alaska, the Kobuk 440.

    The Kuskokwim 300

The Kusko 300 starts this week in Bethel.  Like the Kobuk 440, it is considered a middle distance dog sled race  and qualifier for the Iditarod.  The Kusko 300 coverage can be followed on their website, http://www.k300.org/core, and will feature live tracking from Trackleaders by using SPOT Tracking devices.  A nice recap on following the race can be found in this article, http://www.thetundradrums.com/article/1102how_to_follow_the_k300_race_this_year.

Some of our past mushers are entered in this race, including our very Chuck Schaeffer.  Chuck is the President of the Kobuk 440 Racing Association and an accomplished distance musher.  Please join us in cheering on Chuck Schaeffer and all the mushers in the Kusko 300.

Dog sled races in Kotzebue this weekend

The Kotzebue Dog Mushing Association (KDMA) is having a two day sprint race with 3 mushers competing.  The race will be 16 miles and start on the ice in front of town between Crowley and ATC.  The time elapsed from each day day is totaled up for each musher. He with the fastest total time wins.

So if your looking for something fun to watch at 1pm both days this weekend, head on down to the ice and cheer them on.
